Certified Court Reporter vs Digital Recorder

What Method of Reporting do YOU Trust for Your Case?

Not all methods of reporting were created equal. There are important distinctions to make between what a Certified Court Reporter and a Digital Court Reporter can do for you to take into consideration.

Digital Recorders
  • ARE NOT state certified
  • CANNOT call themselves court reporters
  • ARE NOT background checked (even though they have access to your private information/sensitive material)
  • DO NOT have to follow a Code of Professional Conduct (which requires impartiality)
  • HAVE NO standards for accuracy of transcripts, which are not certified
  • NO state-approved training, certificate, licence, or background check of machine operators (who have access to your sensitive materials)
  • If the recording equipment malfunctions, the recorded legal proceedings are jeopardized
Certified Reporters
  • ARE licensed by the Supreme Court of Arizona following a training and certification process
  • ARE knowledgeable in technical/medical terminology
  • CAN provide instant access to your transcripts via realtime reporting, rough drafts, and expedited transcripts
  • CAN read back on the spot
  • CAN stop proceedings when speaks talk over one another to protect transcript accuracy
  • MUST follow the Code of Professional Conduct, which sets out need for impartial parties.
  • CAN have their license suspended/revoked by Board of Certified Reporters for unprofessional conduct
  • CAN provide remote reporting services through tele/videoconference
  • Transcripts are CERTIFIED and can be used in court

Certified court reporters are the gold standard in Arizona. Which seems right for you?
